Princess Bingo is the last standing bingo hall in Hamilton. It’s located on the mountain on Fennel East, and is a relic from the faded era of previously smoke filled and packed bingo halls; a friend to many lonely hearts and wishful dreamers. The OLG’s planned Ontario Bingo Modernization – otherwise called cGaming –has exclusively been offered to 37 bingo halls province-wide, ignoring and thus excluding Princess Bingo as well as nine other bingo halls from this industry-saving initiative. Tell them what effect the Hall closure will be on your charity in a sentence or two. The Cambridges lived for years in north Wales before and after they married in 2011. Then it was on to 'the bingo hall,' a colorfully decorated room at the facility where residents usually watch. Bingo’s Beltin’ Beginnings. Judges Bingo in Tonypandy in Wales is one of the oldest bingo halls in the UK. The building was opened by the Duke of Argyll and Queen Victoria’s daughter, Princess Louise, in 1909 as a memorial hall. Over the years, it has hosted concerts (including a performance by Black Sabbath), boxing matches and dances.

The New Princess Palace opened on 29th July 1912, right across the road from the Princess Cinema that had opened two years earlier! The subsequent confusion led to the earlier cinema being known as the Old Princess Cinema, while the newer arrival became known as the New Princess Palace. The owner was Ferris Pounds, manager of the Picturedrome. A striking feature was the windmill-like central tower, lined with vertical electric lights. The architect’s drawings show a set of sails attached to the tower, but they were never installed. The cinema had a 30 feet wide proscenium, the stage was 20 feet deep, and there were two dressing rooms.
The New Princess Palace closed on 2nd April 1960. In November 2008, when I photographed it, the windmill tower had been removed and the truncated building was occupied by the Three Two One arcade, cafe and bingo club.

Without immediate access to the cGaming Bingo Modernization the OLG is offering to most – but not all – Halls in Ontario, ten traditional paper Bingo Halls will be forced to close their doors. Why? Because without being able to offer you much higher prizes and jackpots, we simply won’t be able to compete on a level playing field.

The OLG is forcing 10 halls to compete against a much superior cGaming Bingo Modernization model with our continuously declining paper bingo model. This means that our very survival is in jeopardy.

The OLG’s cGaming Bingo Modernization roll-out not only leaves us out, but imprudently distributes sites in an unbalanced and unfair manner. For example, Niagara Falls will have five vibrant sites but Hamilton will be left out in the cold with none.
The unbalanced distribution of the new cGaming Bingo Modernization model not only doesn’t make business sense for our charity and operator stakeholders, it’s also fiscally irresponsible to expect the Province will forego revenues from markets that will be under-served or not served.
